Recently a reader suggested listing some of the sources used to find posts for Open Education News. Without further ado, the following is a list of some top sources used for OEN:
- Key independent blogs – Stephen Downes, David Wiley, Jim Groom, Brian Lamb, Leigh Blackall and George Siemens.
- Honorable mention for related Ed Tech blogs – Dave Cormier, D’Arcy Norman and Tony Hirst.
- Posts from institutions/publications – The Chronicle of Higher Education: Wired Campus (what’s available openly), Creative Commons, OLNet.
- Aggregation sites – Open Access on Connotea. Formerly this was Open Access News.
- Google alerts for certain keywords – copyright, creative commons, ocw, oer, open access, open accreditation, open education, open educational resources, open learning, open source education, open textbooks.
- Twitter feeds for keywords through Yahoo! Pipes – OCW, OER.
The Google alerts are noisy, but they often contain some of the most interesting and novel stories. All of these sources, plus some others, usually yield about 450 items per day. These items are then distilled into 3-7 stories that fit the scope of OEN. Excess stories are either discarded or rolled-over for slower news days.

On your fourth bullet point. Thanks for linking to the main feed from
the OA
Tracking Project –the feed based on the tag, oa.new. That feed
reports all new developments related to OA. Readers of OEN may also
want to follow, and help build, the subtopic feeds on oa.oer, oa.courseware, or
oa.textbooks.
