Roy Tennant has a new post on being unable to sign up for Flickr Commons. From the post:
Flickr laid off George Oates over a year ago, who was at the very least the public face of the Flickr Commons. Since no one apparently replaced her in that role, the level of commitment Yahoo has for the project seems obvious.

Flickr commons was doomed from the start and was always a bad idea. That’s because Yahoo’s Flickr is actually an unlabeled porn site hosting thousands of sex predators, pedophiles and flashers. The plan to use this unfiltered, covertly adult website as a means to educate children has been a predetermined failure, as it should be. Why Yahoo has played this masquerade that allows them to publish millions of hardcore porn images in schools and libraries is beyond comprehension. This irresponsible and negligent behavior by Yahoo is profit motivated as they forgo their abilities to segregate the content, purely for public relations purposes. For five years now, Yahoo has misrepresented Flickr as a family friendly photo sharing site, open for safe use by family and educators. That is simply not true and the majority of, and most viewed images on Flickr are of a very adult nature, completely unsuitable for use by minors. This constant game Yahoo plays has fooled many institutions and even our government into supporting and participating in Flickr, without knowledge of the porn always being shared with kids there. It’s actually not an issue of free speech, as much as one of corporate ethics and responsibility. Neither of which Yahoo possesses, really.
