Cable Green has a new post reporting on The Open College Textbook Act. The act provides funds for the development of open textbooks and requires reporting from open textbook producers. From the post:
“Over the past decade, I have watched textbook publishers use technology to drive up the cost of textbooks through unnecessary online supplements and CD-ROMs,” said Durbin. “Today, the average college student spends between $800 and $1,200 on textbooks every year. It is time that we use the potential of technology to improve college access, learning and affordability for all students.
David Wiley also has commentary on the legislation.

The only problem I have with textbooks going digital is that it seems like it would be so strenuous on the eyes to read all of your textbooks on a computer screen. It really does make sense though, we have the technology and it would save tons of money, for the students at least.
