The Chronicle of Higher Education: Wired News is reporting that the judge in the Google book settlement case has delayed the deadline for authors to opt out. The final hearing has also been postponed until October. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Justice is now looking into the case. From the article:
The federal interest in the case doesn’t necessarily doom the deal, the Times noted. But it “suggests that some of the concerns raised by critics, who say the settlement would unfairly give Google an exclusive license to profit from millions of books, have resonated with the Justice Department.
